Mapping the Long-Term Role of Natural Gas Infrastructure
Half of final energy demand in 2050 will be met with fuels. Natural gas infrastructure will continue to play a foundational role in energy systems and delivery. Today’s operating equipment, pipelines, and transmission lines will accelerate the delivery of new, lower-emission fuels, support interdependent and integrated energy systems, and scale affordable, safe, and reliable solutions. Gas infrastructure will be relied upon for the fastest, most affordable, and efficient transition.
GTI Energy designed the Resilient Affordable Infrastructure for Secure Energy (RAISE) collaborative to map the most valuable opportunities for leveraging gas infrastructure in current and future energy systems, including the potential for integrating lower-emission fuels.
By mapping these opportunities, RAISE provides a holistic understanding of the natural gas infrastructure system and offers actionable recommendations on the research, technology development, partnerships, and investments required to upgrade and evolve the country’s vast network of gas pipelines and storage systems.
The natural gas infrastructure that exists today will play a pivotal role in advancing the energy systems of the future.
Underground Gas Storage in Natural Gas Infrastructure: Gulf Coast Insights
This report highlights underground gas storage (UGS) as essential for energy reliability and decarbonization. Focusing on the Gulf Coast, it examines UGS's role in stabilizing prices, supporting grid resilience, and its potential for repurposing to meet decarbonization goals.

RAISE is laying the groundwork to demonstrate the need—and quantify the value—for existing and new gas pipelines and related energy infrastructure to inform the most cost-effective deployment of capital.
