CH4 Connections Facilitates Collaborative Dialogue about Methane Emissions

At the third annual CH4 Connections conference, hosted at the Westin Alexandria in Virginia on November 2-3, 2016, leading research experts, policymakers, and environmental advocates will come together to discuss what's new and what's next in this important environmental area.

The CH4 Connections conference, hosted by Gas Technology Institute (GTI), will facilitate collaborative dialogue on methane emissions from natural gas and feature current research and technologies, policy and regulatory options, and business implications.

• Review U.S. DOE Strategies to Reduce Methane Emissions
  Neelesh Nerurkar, the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Oil and Natural Gas at the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy (FE), U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) will share his expertise in energy and economics as he presents on U.S. natural gas programs and regulations.
• Hear about ARPA-E Program and Emerging Technologies
  As a Technology-to-Market Advisor at the Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E), Nate Gorence helps prepare breakthrough energy technologies for transition from the lab to the market and deepen ARPA-E's private sector engagement. He will provide insight into some key initiatives underway at the agency.
• Learn about EPA’s Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Programs
  Sarah Dunham, the Director of EPA’s Office of Atmospheric Programs (OAP), will discuss programs for the mitigation and quantification of methane emissions. The OAP protects the ozone layer, addresses climate change, and improves regional air quality, and includes EPA’s GHG Inventory and GHG Reporting Program.
• Navigate Industry, Policy, and Public Challenges with an Energy Policy Thought Leader
  In her keynote presentation “Toning Down the Rhetoric,” Tisha Schuller, Strategic Advisor to Stanford University’s Natural Gas Initiative, will speak to the controversy and the crucial issue of communication between industry, government, non-profit organizations, and other stakeholders.
• Gain International Perspectives on Methane Emissions
  A panel comprised of international gas industry representatives will share insights into worldwide methane emissions challenges and solutions.

Researchers around the world have developed cutting-edge techniques for accurate and representative emissions measurement; gas utilities have implemented new leak detection and prevention strategies; and regulators have enacted balanced measures to encourage further improvement. CH4 Connections provides a forum for diverse interests to share knowledge and experience as they discuss upcoming policy decisions and the newest detection, measurement, and reduction programs and techniques.

Speakers from federal agencies, environmental advocacy groups, utilities, universities, national labs, gas associations, and others will share their insights. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with policymakers and decision makers at the forefront of emissions policy and practice, as well as visit with vendors showcasing relevant products and services.
