Gasifying Coal and Biomass Mix for Net-Negative-Carbon Power and Hydrogen
A mixture of coal and biomass is being gasified at the Sheldon Station power plant in Nebraska, creating syngas that can be converted into hydrogen and power with net-negative carbon emissions.
Using GTI Energy’s proven fluidized-bed gasifier (U-GAS) technology with a 50% coal and 50% pelletized corn stover mixture from regional resources, smaller scale MW generation, high ramp rates and turndown, feedstock flexibility, and high efficiency has been achieved. An economic analysis has been completed, illustrating viable cost, and a front-end-engineering design study is underway.
