GTI Energy and KEPRI sCO2 Technology Status and
Commercialization Workshop
On April 25, 2019, GTI Energy and Korea Electric Power Research Institute (KEPRI) hosted a stakeholder workshop on supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO2) power conversion technology. About 50 representatives from across the global sCO2 community, including industry, government, and researchers, had a valuable and productive day at GTI Energy connecting and sharing important information.
The workshop covered progression of sCO2 technology to its current level of maturity and next steps towards commercialization. Topics included the status of sCO2 technology applications in indirect cycles such as industrial waste heat recovery, coal and Concentrated Solar Power (CSP), and natural gas-oxy combustion direct-fired cycles. Highly-regarded industry and government leaders shared their perspectives on public-private partnerships and equipment and materials, followed by question and answer sessions discussing technical and business risks and how these issues can be mitigated for successful commercialization.
The day culminated with tours of GTI Energy’s Energy Conversion facilities and labs and a networking reception. Given the positive feedback by participants, the organizers feel encouraged to host a similar workshop again next year, so watch for more details.
Become a project partner
This open project is welcoming new partners from around the world. OEMs, engineering companies, and power plant owner/operators are invited to join to gain a better understanding of how sCO2 technology can improve high-efficiency power generation.
