For over 125 years, SHV Energy has been delivering off-grid fuels around the world. Having already transitioned from coal to oil and from oil to LPG, we are now energised to develop a future with sustainable fuels.

As the drive to tackle climate change and to hit net-zero targets has risen, SHV Energy displayed vision by establishing us, Futuria Fuels - a dedicated business unit whose mission is to enable innovation that will accelerate the development and availability of sustainable fuels. Through collaboration, partnership, and investment, we will make this happen.

The result will be the scaling of on-purpose production of renewable liquid gas. This will allow us to drop in sustainable molecules in existing infrastructure and immediately reduce carbon emissions.

At BTG-Bioliquids we replace fossil fuels!

Where the Earth formed oil reserves over millions of years, fast pyrolysis technology can achieve this in several seconds. Fast Pyrolysis Bio Oil is produced from non-food biomass and is therefore a second-generation biofuel which does not compete with the food chain. The local decentralized production of Fast Pyrolysis Bio Oil separates out the minerals in the biomass so they can be recycled to maintain the soil quality. Due to its energy density and liquid form existing infrastructure can be used for transporting Fast Pyrolysis Bio Oil. Fast Pyrolysis Bio Oil can be stored for long periods of time and is therefore available when necessary. It can substitute fossil fuels in heat and power applications and thereby provide peak renewable power and heat to complement other (intermittent) renewable sources. Other applications are co-feeding of pyrolysis oil to FCC’s to make partly renewable fuels and gasification of pyrolysis oil using existing oil resid gasifiers to make fuels and chemicals.

The core business of BTG-Bioliquids is the delivery and deployment of our patented fast pyrolysis technology. We currently have 3 commercial references with a scale of 5 ton per hours of biomass per hour input and producing 20 million liter of oil per plant per year:

Empyro in the Netherlands since 2015;
Green Fuel Nordic in Finland since 2020;
Pyrocell in Sweden since 2021.

CADA SynSel Energy Partners is a strategic partnership formed to develop green fuel projects in the Caribbean.

Carbon Asset Developer Associates LLC (CADA) offers climate finance opportunities under the Paris Agreement’s Article 6 offset markets. As both a project developer and contractor, CADA provides value propositions that earn their customers project equity and operating revenues.

SynSel Energy, Inc. will provide technical expertise to build and operate 100-ton-per-day modular biorefineries.

CADA SynSel Energy Partners Caribbean-based biorefineries will transform biomass into synthetic gasoline and diesel fuels – two expensive though essential commodities that presently must be delivered from the mainland.

The first plant is scheduled for Dominica as part of an Article 6 climate cooperation project finance vehicle with Switzerland. Under this “cooperative endeavors” initiative, CADA SynSel Energy Partners plans to build a total of 13 identical modular biorefineries in the Caribbean.

Drax Group is a renewable energy company engaged in renewable power generation, the production of sustainable biomass and the sale of renewable electricity to businesses.
